　P.6 mock interview

The P.6 mock interview for different primary schools in the district was held on 26^th November 2022 (Saturday). The aim of it was to help the 6^th Graders to prepare the interview for getting a place at their ideal secondary schools. Our English Ambassadors were very helpful that they helped teachers to ask candidates questions in English during the interview and further promoted our school to them. There were 22 English Ambassadors in total. After the interview, some English Ambassadors claimed that they were impressed by the candidates’ performance and their language ability. Here comes the reflections of 4 English Ambassadors.

The club held their 2022-2023 AGM on Wednesday 19^th November 2022. At the meeting, the committee were officially appointed as follows for the upcoming academic year.

English Week

After two years of lockdown, the annual English Week was finally held on May 2-5. This year’s theme is Celebrations! It’s because “Life should not only be lived; it should be celebrated”. A different famous quote was explained each day to encourage everyone to celebrate life and grow together. On top of that, idioms & phrases related to celebratory occasions were taught.

　Gigantic scrabble

In February and March, our school held a fun and engaging activity for our S.2 and S.3 students called "Gigantic Scrabble". The aim of this activity was to promote teamwork, critical thinking, and communication skills among our students, while also arousing their interest in learning English.

　SONG DEDICATION

Valentine's Day is a significant day to express our gratitude to the special someone in our life.

This year, we had a song dedication during lunchtime the week before Valentine’s. Students wrote messages and dedicated songs to celebrate love, friendship and appreciation.

　Theme for English morning assembly 2022-2023: Diligence and Responsibility

Nice to have our English morning assembly back!

The theme for this year is `Diligence and Responsibility’. Here, we are not just talking about students’ roles in school and family. It is also about the responsibility towards our environment, our Mother Earth and our society, Hong Kong.

　P.6 Mock interview

Every year our school serves the community by organizing a mock interview for P.6 students who are interested in polishing their interview skills. Some of our students would volunteer to help as English ambassadors. Their main duty is to assist the candidates and conduct the interview in English. Jonte and James have volunteered to help this year and let’s see how they felt about the experience.

Learning English through Health & Fitness

To broaden students’ exposure to English and boost their confidence using it, a new course, Learning English through Health & Fitness, is offered to Secondary 4 students.

　Speech Festival

This year, a total of twelve S1 to S3 students joined the 73rd Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival. They participated in the Solo Verse Speaking Non-open, in which the poems ‘What for’, ‘Hill Rolling’ and ‘Fishbones Dreaming’ were selected.

　Evangelization Drama

This drama is called “Seeds grow in good soil”. It is about a ‘miracle seed’ which brings happiness and harmony to a turbulent family. All the family members are so desperate for a miracle, that they follow all the strange instructions of growing the seed, including praying to the plant, being polite to others, loving and caring for others and even the plant. After some time, there is no sign of any result. When they are about to give up, something happened. Can they get the miracle at last? What is the miracle? Let’s find out.

Play 2: Give me a break

The story explores the problems of teenagers and some of the different types of social pressure that young people of today face, focusing on bullying and the pressure from parents and teachers and how you must stand up for yourself.

Play 1: Cinderfella

Cinderfella is a comedic reimagining of the classic fairy tale Cinderella. In our version, Cinderfella is portrayed by a boy called Fella. Even though being exploited badly by his stepmother and stepsisters, Fella never loses hope in life and always dreams about having a warm family of his own.

English Week

Gigantic Scrabble

A gigantic scrabble game board was set up in the centre of the playground. Each team was given gigantic cards ( 7 letter -cards, 1 wild card and 1 double-point card ).

Song Dedication

Lunchtime song dedication was introduced this year by the English Department to provide students with more exposure to English in a relaxed way.

Tuck Shop Express

To encourage our students to use more English in daily life, Tuck Shop Express was organized during the English Week to let our boys order food in English.

Game booths

‘Ready, Set, Go!’.

Driven by curiosity and enthusiasm, students were highly motivated to involve themselves in the game booths held on 15 Jan, the commencement of the English Week.

English Week MC

A team of five students from both the senior & junior forms banded together introducing and setting the joyous tone for the English activities each day during the English Week.

Movie Show ━ Incredibles 2

On the third day of English Week, students were invited to watch a well-known animated movie “Incredibles 2” during lunch and after school. The participants enjoyed watching the movie with snacks very much. It was relaxing and enjoyable.

Let us proudly present the newly established English Drama Team! The team was set up this year consisting of 20 F.1 to F.3 students. Members have gone through lessons on performance skills, vocal, physical and facial expressions.

English Week was held from the 6th to 10th February, 2017. We held this annual event with the purpose of encouraging our students to use English outside the classroom and allow them to learn common phrases and vocabulary.

　Winners of 68th Hong Kong School Speech Festival – Choral Speaking

Since 2013, our school has been participating in the annual Speech Festival held by the Hong Kong School Music and Speech Association. In December, our boys at 2A took home the 1 place after being encouraged to participate in the festival.

　The Sir T.L. Yang English Language Ambassadors Outreach – Speaksy Workshop

Four F.4 students and one F.3 student joined a public speaking workshop titled “The Sir T.L. Yang English Language Ambassadors Outreach – Speaksy Workshop” in May 2015.

　English Talent Show 2015

Our English Drama Team became first runner-up in the English Talent Show 2015, which was organised by Hong Kong Catholic Diocesan Schools Council Secondary Section English Language Education Committee on 23rd May, 2015.

　50th Anniversary Musical

CHECCS’s 50th Anniversary is coming soon, English Deparmtment will be staging a musical for this special occasion. This musical appears to be very unique with its special characters and an exceptional plot.

　50th Anniversary Inter-Class Writing Competition

In the run-up to the celebration of our school’s 50th Anniversary, English Department organised an inter-class writing competition in the final term of the school year.

　The CIE English Public Speaking Contest 2015

CIE English Public Speaking Contest 2015 was held by Hong Kong Baptist University between April and May. Five students from our school participated in the competition and watched the final.

　“Around the world in 80 days” Drama Workshop

Our Form 2 and 3 boys participated in a drama workshop on 11th February and 27th February respectively as part of preparation for the forthcoming drama appreciation of “Around the world in 80 days”, which is run within The Jockey Club "From Page to Stage®" Programme. .

　English Book Expo 2015

In order to increase students’ achievement and interest in reading English books, English Book Expo was held in the school hall on 5th February , 2015.

　Choi Hung English café

English Café has been open since December 2014 this school year, where our students set up chairs and tables replicating a café, offering English tea and coffee, and puffs and waffles, in a Western culture atmosphere. .

　Arts Seminar at St Edward’s Catholic Primary School

The Arts Seminar at St Edward’s Catholic Primary School is an annual joint-school carnival. In the seminar, students from kindergarten, primary schools and secondary schools got a chance to show-off their talents through organizing a lot of interesting and exciting game booths and a wide range of excellent performance such as singing, dancing, martial arts and so on. .

　English Week

In order to increase students’ interest in and exposure to English, English Week is held from 8th December to 12th December this year. During the week, all announcements are made in English and different activities and competitions such as game booths, scrabble and Table-Tenglish are held during lunch time. .

　Joint-School Oral Practice

On 12th December 2014, a group of form 6 students went to Lee Kau Yan Memorial School for Joint School Oral Practice. .

　English Speaking Day

To encourage all students to speak English on campus, we have our ‘English Speaking Day’ on every Wednesday. Every Wednesday in the morning, our assembly is conducted in English so teachers and students are only allowed to make announcement in English. .

　AFS Intercultural Fair

The emphasis of the Intercultural Fair 2014 is for participants to learn through experiencing different cultures and having fun. On 29th November 2014, 8 of our students had an extraordinary English learning experience at Maryknoll Fathers' School. .

　Alice in wonderland - The immersive experience

At the second weekend of October, two Choi Hung boys, 1A Chan Wing Hang and Lai Pak Fung took part in an innovative drama—Alice in wonderland and beyond. .

English Ambassadors are our stars. They help create an English-rich environment on campus. Our stars received training on presentation and communication skills. .
